School District of Mystery Lake provides a number of student services to assist in Manitoba Education’s commitment to inclusion for all. All students should have the opportunity to participate in the school experience to their fullest potential.

The coordinator is responsible for the development, co-ordination, delivery and evaluation of programs and services for students with special needs. Duties and responsibilities include programming, screening and funding applications.

Cree Language Coordinator:

The Cree Language Coordinator coordinates language programming, develops Cree language resources to ensure the consistent and effective implementation of local and provincial Cree bilingual and Cree as a second language curriculum. The coordinator is also responsible to provide leadership and training for the Cree language programs.

The consultants provide guidance and assistance to administration, instructional staff and other teams to support the development, implementation and incorporation of Aboriginal Perspectives in the curriculum and programming to enhance Aboriginal student success and cultural proficiency throughout the district.

The consultant helps families who are having difficulty sending their children to school.  Supports offered include educational planning and goal setting, attendance and grade checks, communication with home, assistance in receiving counselling or other community services, developing problem solving skills and other valuable school skills. The consultant’s mandate is to work with parents and students to create a positive school experience. Referrals can be made by parents, teachers, or administrators.

District Counsellor:

The District Counsellor works with at-risk students, provides parenting support; coordinates intervention plans between school and home, and promotes and assists with communication between outside agencies, school personnel, parents and students in order to help students enhance themselves, develop healthy relationships and receive a quality of education.

Education Technology Consultant:

The role of the Education Technology Consultant is to provide guidance and mentoring to teachers and students as they build technology into their everyday classroom lives.  The Education Technology Consultant advises the teacher on activities he or she could do with the students and provides instruction in a team-teaching environment so everybody learns. The Education Technology Consultant also provides feedback to the senior administration as to the direction the school district should move in terms of a vision of technology in order to give our students a quality learning experience.

French Language Coordinator:

The French Language Coordinator coordinates, advises and assists with the development, implementation and evaluation of curricula, programs and services for Basic French and French Immersion students. A major role of the coordinator is to assist others to develop new French skills and to build upon existing skills.

Literacy Support Teacher:

The literacy support teacher supports teachers, students and other school personnel to promote literacy instruction across the curriculum. The teacher supports school staffs with assessments, demonstrates instructional strategies and techniques, co-plans and co-teaches with teachers, orders and organizes literacy materials, facilitates the development of district literacy assessments, co-ordinates literacy initiatives, and provides in-services on various topics.

Speech and Language Therapy:

The speech and language therapists deliver consultation, diagnostic evaluations, recommendations and therapy for students with communication disorders in order to improve communication skills.

School District Psychologist:

Services are based on district referral system.
