1.      Approval of Minutes amended as follows under point “5” discussion regarding writing papers. The Jan. 11th minutes stated “RDPC does not teach this and students have to learn this at University level” Should read that RDPC does teach APA referencing style.

2.      Mr. Land’s Report:

-          Partenership with BUCARES, Maples offering 1st year university credits – these run outside of school day at lunch time, afterschool, Saturdays – no charge for students registered or the school.  It is possible to offer academic writing course (3 credit course, approx. 12 weeks long) which focuses on the style of writing papers – this course would be web-based.  Could we offer it this year? Mr. Land is not sure if the school could get it up and running but wanting to look at the 2nd semester next year.

-          Approximately 12 teachers took Standard First Aid Training with CPR and training on the AED device.

-          During exam time a think tank occurred focusing on punctuality and hallway decorum of students.  They watched a video on START (Safe, Transition and Reduce Tardies).  Staff in attendance want to pitch it to the whole staff as it would need consensus to implement.

-          Friday, February 12 office staff will be receiving training on “Synervoice” a program that will contact parents on student’s lates and absenteeism from classes.  It may also be used to send messages, etc to parents/guardians.

-          As of Feb. 8th $ raised for Haiti was about $3,500.  During the assemblies today it was emphasized what a dollar can do.  All monies will be passed onto the Red Cross.  A group of students will be involved in a Student Social Group to look at continuing the fundraising and awareness.

3.      YAC (Madeline Ponask)– was a success 165 participants with 30 in town for 12 to 18years old.  A variety of workshops were offered from crafts to positive relationships.  There was a $100 reg. fee for out of town – this helped cover expenses – hoodies were presented to the chaperones.  Special note was given to how well all participants behaved especially the Youth Build students (Jim Mason will pass this on at the next Boys and Girls Club). Note was given to see if the attending of the conference could be built into the Native Studies course.

4.      Regional Finals in The Pas – Mr. Krueger took 30 kids from all skills from RDPC (small engines, hairstyling, carpentry, power mechanics, etc.) Students behaved beautifully.

5.      Bus Schedules – Last meeting there was discussion on the bus schedules and if there could be somehow changes to better accommodate the school schedule.  There is a rumor that the city is taking over the busing – Danny will be checking with Randy Patrick at the city and report back at next meeting.

6.      Snow removal – Deb Mason asked why the recreation road entrance was not promptly cleared after the last storm – this made passing oncoming traffic, especially buses difficult.

7.      Betty brought to attention that on March 3 in Winnipeg a Safety School meeting will be taking place and wondered if our school was aware of this and how the High school would be represented. Mr. Land said he will have Mr. Itson check into this, as he is on the Safe school Committee.

8.      Meeting adjourned 8:01 pm.
