Graduation will be held Wednesday, June 26. The non-refundable grad fee is $130.00 which includes a yearbook. Please pay at the office by May 15.
R. D. Parker Collegiate's Class of 2001 walked in pairs through the trellis on the floor of the C. A. Nesbitt arena to the applause of the standing-room only crowd and to the music of the select band under the direction of Bob Miller. In his opening speech, Principal Glenville Ansine offered the graduates some truths to live by and announced his retirement after 33 years of teaching. In her entertaining and intructive speech, Guest Speaker and Teacher Katie Buchanan couldn't resist giving the students a history lesson, listing some of the social and political events for Class of 2001 milestones (eg. birth, school entry and freshie year). Valedictorian Kulbhir (Kolby) Gill, winner of the Governor-General's Award and the Millenium Scholarship, addressed the graduating class in a speech that was both nostalgic and inspiring. After thanking parents and teachers for their roles, Kulbir recounted the days from freshie to senior years and then went on to talk about the future.
As the highlight of the evening, students were called up on stage one by one to receive their diplomas and the recognition of their outstanding accomplishments. Congratulations to all graduates!
Other speeches were made by Wayne Scibak, Board of Trustees, Robert MacGillivray, School District Superintendent, and Sharon McKay, Keewatin Tribal Council. Students also gave introductory and thank you speeches. The grad choir sang "Count on Me", directed by Choir Teacher, Mr. David Skime.
Parents and guardians attended between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. May 12, 2001 and had the opportunity to view grads dressed in their finery and to take photographs.
The New Gym was decorated with ballroom stairs leading up to an elaborately decorated stage and a working fountain. Students took the annual Walk of Fame, each potential grad placing a star containing his or her name on the backdrop to the stage.
