My name is Bruce Downie and I was a teacher at R. D. Parker Collegiate from
'66 - '68 and am now living in Victoria, BC. I came across your website
last spring and was in touch with Corrie Perdock about the proposed reunion
of the class of '68. I came to know many of that year's class through
coaching basketball and being involved with the music program. I was part
of the Mikado production that Jim Hillyer mentioned in his note, which was
coordinated by Ernest Dueck who has now retired from teaching and is living
in Steinbach, Manitoba. It was a shame that the event didn't materialize.
I was sorry to see that I had also missed the earlier reunion of the class
of '72 as I have fond memories of those students when they were in my home
room and other classes in junior high school.
I have attached to this document a few photos from those years which I thought you might be able to post on your site. I'm sure there would be some interest in them. Thanks for your great site. Please add my name to the list of addresses you have collected and I will look forward to hearing from former students and colleagues.

Just thought I'd update you. I taught at RDPC in 66/67 centennial
year. We put on The Mikado that year. Who was the musician on staff
who directed that?
I live in Stirling, Alberta with my wife, Marianne, of 26 years and our
fourteen children: Fred, Jim, Bob, Tom, Patti, Becca, Danny, Johnny,
Marianne, Heidi, Russell, Dave, Ben and Kathlynn. I am still teaching.
I walk half a block to and from school four times a day with my school
age children. It's been a wonderful life so far.

I worked in the mines and suddenly I ventured into this site. I was stunned, I had thought over the years that the town had been closed down.My brother in law now in Pickering married the mine manager about 1969, I didn't think that there was a school in the region. How wrong I was. I still have photos of your Prime Minister the Hon Pierre Elliot Trudeau with us having lunch sometime in 1979 when he visited the area but I believe he has since passed away.
I still have photos of that cemetery with 28 unknown victims found under the floor boards of tent city. It was a tough place but the people were equally resolute and TOUGH.
I can't imagine living in those conditions of extreme cold. I have only a pair of shorts, a tee shirt and thongs for Winter and Summer..
However all the best and I didn't know there was a high school when I lived there.

Hello, Thompson. I graduated from RDPC in 1976 and returned as an English teacher in 1981. I've visited your website many times and it always brings back great memories of the people and the city! I have lived in Toronto for thirteen years and I'm enjoying the four seasons. I've left teaching behind, but my English skills still come in handy at my current position...as a Senior Manager in one of Toronto's mid-town public accounting firms. I'd love to hear from former classmates...and students. And if you're ever in Toronto, give me a call.

Worked at RDPC in the front office for a couple of years then moved over the Guidance Department till I left in 1983. Very interesting web site and certainly have enjoyed reading all about the people and school. Loved my years at RDPC and have many great memories. After Thompson lived in Winnipeg for 12 years then my husband was transferred to to Sherwood Park, Alberta in 1996. We will be here for another couple of years then upon retiring will be returning to Manitoba. My daughter Suzanne and her husband Ron and my two special grandchildren now live in Winnipeg. My son Paul is now also living in Winnipeg and working as a Corrections Officer at Stoney Mountain Pen and loving it. Love to hear from anyone that remembers.

Hi people! You find the neatest things when you're looking for something else. I have been back to Thompson a few times. Most recently, I visited for my son's graduation (Ryan Kennedy RDPC '98) and my daughter's graduation (Lee Kennedy RDPC '96). Lee lives here in Lethbridge and is in her 3rd year at the University of Lethbridge. Ryan is currently in Liverpool, England as part of a student exchange program.
My wife, Susie, and children, Clark (7) and Ellis (6) thought the North was quite a place! Spent some time with Bruce Cameron and family.
It was neat to see 'old faces' (figuratively speaking, of course) at RDPC. I'm still making life miserable for students in my 14th year teaching Business Administration at Lethbridge Community College.
I spend most of my free time playing hockey (about 120 games per year). When we are all off in the summer we like to go boating, water-skiing and swimming.
Hi Mrs. McKelvey and Mrs. Beattie! Saw Anne Durno and Mike Liutkus while I was in Halifax last summer ('98).
I hope this page catches on with more former students and teachers. I would sure like to hear what everyone is up to.

My wife Susan and I moved to Ontario in 1986 after my first four years of teaching. I am now teaching visual arts in Burlington, and have been at the same school ever since.
Our son Spencer was born in Thompson...he is now in grade 11 and over 6 feet tall. He is actually in Italy right now on a tour for March break. We also have a daughter, Emma, who is 11 years old and has no idea where the heck Thompson Manitoba is!!
By the way, for those of you who might remember Barbara Yale...she is living here in Burlington too, teaching in this school division. Susan and I were at her wedding a few years ago...she has a young daughter, and she is doing fine!!!
I have fond memories of R.D. Parker as it was my first teaching position. Hellos go out to all the teachers that helped me get started helped keep me sane in the frozen north!! After leaving Thompson, Helen & I found our little spot of paradise here
in Parksville and we are enjoying our retirement very much. We started a
Thompson Reunion with ex- Thompsonites living here on the Island. The
first year there were about 8 who showed up and at the last one we had
somewhere around 40 ex Thompsonites who arrived to eat, play games and
tell good old Thompson stories. If anyone knows someone who has moved to
the Island ,please let me know so we can invite them to our next reunion.
Thanks.
Keep up the good work.

After leaving R.D. Parker in June, 2002, I had intended to retire in

do occasionally meet former students and a few former teachers like Paul

interests. I miss Thompson and RDPC, and intend on visiting for the
retirement dinner at the end of June. Would love to hear from any former
students who have the time and inclination to write. I will not check for

Hello fellow Thompsonites. It is I Stephen Campbell former resident of Thompson, Manitoba but now residing in Fort McMurray Alberta. RDPC, now that takes me back. There was a time when I used to go to that school, when I was there I was considered an outcast. I wasn't no jock, nor belonged to any club, I was just plain old joe public. Who is in charge of the establishment? I left Thompson two years ago and haven't been back since. I do not know when I'll be back. I hope soon. Do you know of a Chad Katchmar? He's my brother as is his sister and mine, Kristin. Ask anyone or any teacher for that matter if they know of me and they'll say: "Stephen who?" Ask any teacher of Donna Campbell and they'll probably say: "Oh I remember her." Before I went to Rdpc, I came from Burntwood School.

November 23, 2001 - I just had another of my frequent look sover the school website. I still talk fondly of my days at RDPC and all the programs we were able to offer. While I do miss my Thompson friends, I do have to say though that I don't really miss the winters and it is nice to be back home by the ocean. I was back for a visit over my spring break in 2001 and have plans to be back out during July 2002 to see my new niece or nephew. By the way, I heard through the grapevine that during the 1981 reunion festivities, some of you took time for a toast to my late husband, Andy Laine, a member of the 1981 grad class. Thnaks to those who did that - it means a lot to me that you would make the time for something like that admidst all the fun. It is greatly appreciated.
I'd love to hear from any former students or staff, especially if any of you are planning a trip out this way.

What a Page. I couldn't stop smiling the whole time I was reading it. It's so interesting to see how everyone has turned out since those crazy high school days...and the different locations around the continent they ended up. Wow.
Gee I'm sorry to say I didn't graduate from Parker as I bailed out after completing grade 1 to 11 in Thompson. I took off to play Junior Hockey in Selkirk and finished my grade 12 there. Then the funny stuff started happening. I became a teacher in Winnipeg for 8 years and then figured Winnipeg and Thompson weren't cold enough, so I taught in Coral Harbour , N.W.T. for 5 years. Now this 'll kill you....I became the Principal of a K to 12 school of 250 students. Warm weather beckoned again and I'm now teaching in Victoria and my wife Helen and I are running a Bed and Breakfast. (Check out our web page.- http://victoriabc.com/accom/watersedge.html )
Has any of the old gang ended up in similar "out of character" positions of employ?? Is there any of the old gang out there? (all those old people in their 40's)
What pleasant memories this visit to this site has given me. I'm sure it has been the same for all. Many THANKS to those responsible. Is anyone out there?

Well hello everyone. You are all right that it sure has been a long time. I'll give you the short version of what I have been up to. I have been married to Doug since 1991 and we had our first child a son named Sammy in 2000 and our second child a girl named Katie 3 months ago in August 02. I moved from Thompson to Vancouver, then to Helena, Montana...graduated with a degree in Medical Records...moved to Sitka, Alaska..met my husband who is in the US Coast Guard so we move about every three years so have since been to Cheboygan, Michigan....Ketchikan, AK...Sitka, AK...Rockland, Maine..and now are in Abrams, Wisconsin about 20 minutes from Green Bay....It's been great. We are not sure how long we will be here, may move again this summer or stay until 2004 or 2006. Well that is all for now.. I am one of those "backward" types who don't officially have an email address so if you wish to get a hold of me feel free to use the old fashioned mail system...I know, I know what a pain!!
